Note To Moderator

Dear moderator
Please find below my foundation portfolio G321.
My brief was to research, construct and evaluate a front cover of a music magazine of a genre of my choice. The genre I choose to create my magazine on was Country Music.
Please use the labels as they will help you to navigate the Blog as efficiently as possible.

Development of Cover

Development of Cover

I have made the main headline even bigger, edited the Gretta Hill story so that the name is on top and the Q&A is on the bottom. I have added in a name to the poster advertisement to add more intrigue I have also changed the 'Country Countdown' story for another of the main stories on the contents page which is 'Bomshel end of the line', this helps the cover to flow more consistently with the rest of the magazine. I have also added in a second story along the bottom so that there is even less dead space.

Here I have edited the smaller images a little more and I have also made it so that the banner is red and not off red/orange as it was before.

I have taken away the red banner on the right hand side, edited the headline so that its centralized and 'Summer' is larger than 'In The UK', I have lowered the story a little and made it so that it lines up on the top and bottom.

Update 22

Update 22

So I have edited the Double Page Spread to make it fit with the new house style. I have also re-arranged the page a little bit as there are some things that I just didn't feel fit anymore.

I am going to get some audience feedback on them, make any necessary changes and then review my evaluation questions.

Update 21

Update 21

Like with my cover the contents page had a large amount of dead space and I just didn't like the overall layout. So I've gone back re-vamped and re-arranged the entire page and this is what I came up with. I like it better because there is a lot less dead space and the layout feels more professional.

Next I am going to work on my Double Page Spread. I am mainly going to try and just make it fit with the new house style.

I need to go back and center the Q&A box and I think I will move down the 'Summer In The UK' a little bit more as it looks a little high to me.

Update 20

Update 20

I have gone back to my magazine and decided it is a tad bare and has a lot of dead space. So to begin with I have gone back and edited the cover page. The next post will show the updated version.

I am now going to take a second look at the contents page.

To flesh it out a bit more I have added a small box to the bottom of the cover. This is something I was inspired to do by one of my RMA's. It is featured below.

I have added in the new image of my main model

I have added in the main image for the left and feel that the model works better as she is older. I have also added the quote back in over a yellow box so that it stands out.

I have now added in the pull quotes which have stayed the same content wise, but I have changed the font and colour so that they follow the new house theme.

I have changed the font of the title and the story. I have made the page numbers white and changed the Q&A's to red so that they stand out more.

This is the final design of the contents page. I have added in my image of the main artist 'Summer' along with the story title and overview. I have also added in the free posters.

I have filled the boxes with the sub-stories. The titles and page numbers of these are exactly the same as before. I have swapped over the page numbers and titles as it seems to flow better. I have also added a small black line between each page number and its respective story. This gives the box more definition and also clearly shows which story is on which page.

I have added in the rest of the picture sub-stories. Like with the first one I have added the page numbers and a story title fitting to each image. Next I will be filling in the boxes.

I have added a smaller version of the yellow boxes and will replace the 'free posters' shortly. I have also added in the first story. Like the boxes I have given the image a black outline. I will be altering some of the headings as I have done here, changing it from 'Wedding Bells???' to 'Guess who's getting wet?!'. I have written a brief overview of the story underneath and the page number which will now be white with a black outline.

I have re-added in the sub-story boxes. I have changed the colour slightly in order to make it fit the colour scheme better. I have also given them a black outline so that they have more definition.

I have changed the title, the date and the issue number to match the new colour scheme and fonts.

I have added the main heading back in and the bar-code and price. I now need to get the main image so that I can add it in and then I can focus on the other, surrounding stories.

I have gotten rid of the image from the front and changed the font and colouring of 'Rodeo' and 'Bringing Country Back'. I will next re-add the main heading making it match the new font and colour scheme. I will also add back in the bar-code and price.

Update 19

Update 19

I have created a photoshoot plan for the photoshoot I am going to do tonight. When I have these images I will add them into the magazine.

I have used PowToon to re-do evaluation question 3. This has allowed me to use another more interesting technology.

I have re-done my website for evaluation question 6 so that the style of the website fits the theme more, is more concise and to the point.

Update 18

Update 18

When looking at my magazine I didn't feel it was quite right. So I went back and had a look at some more RMA's and decided to make a few changes.

  1. I changed the colour scheme slightly - I got rid of the purple as I didn't feel it met the codes and conventions of a Country Music Magazine and have changed it for a deep red. I have also tweaked the background colour because I didn't like the pink tinge it had. I also added in some yellow on the contents page, but this is very subtle.
  2. I have changed the font - after looking at my text and comparing it to the RMA's I decided to change the text so that they all match, therefore carrying the 'house style' through the magazine with more fluidity. I also felt that the original text didn't stand out enough.
  3. I have tried to vary the font sizes more
  4. I have added a black outline to the page numbers on the contents page (only the numbers on images) to help them stand out more.
  5. I've gotten rid of the box behind 'Summer in the UK!' on the front page as it just didn't seem to fit with the overall theme.
  6. I've re-arranged some of the contents page and replaced some of the images as they didn't fit with the theme and the connecting story.
  7. I have added a black border to all the images
  8. There are now black lines between the page numbers and the story's in the 'Other Stories' columns. This helps to give the page more definition and I feel it also helps the page to flow better.
  9. I'm changing the main model again, as she doesn't feel old enough to be on the front cover of a magazine, I have therefore gotten rid of these images until I can re-shoot with a new model.
  10. I'm also changing the posters so have gotten rid of these too.
  11. On the double page spread I have changed the page numbers to white, however I may change this again once the new images are put in.
  12. I have made the Q. and A.'s more interesting by making them red and slightly bigger than the rest of the text.
  13. I have re-positioned the pull quotes slightly.
  14. I have gotten rid of the quote on the left hand page and will replace it once I have the new images.
I would also like to add some more to the front cover as compared to the RMA's it is rather empty.
